ZenDim Coffee Labs — Field Notes
Most of our field tests happen at cafés. Today was different. I brought the ZenithShot Elite to a hair salon.
The idea: make espresso in front of people who've never heard of extraction ratios or non-pressurized baskets — and see how they react.
If it works at a café, it's a good espresso machine. If it works at a hair salon, it's a good product.
The Setup
I packed the ZenithShot Elite, the ZenithNano grinder, and fresh small lot beans from Trader Joe's. The plan: get my haircut first, then offer espresso at the end. Walking in with a coffee machine before even sitting down felt like too much.
It was awkward. It's always awkward. But that's part of the process now.
The Reaction
After the haircut, I brought out the machine. The questions started immediately — what beans do you use, how does it work, is it really the same as a big machine?
One person mentioned her husband bought an espresso machine for over $1,000. I explained that the same quality now fits in a bag and runs on battery. That comparison sells itself.
The espresso was ready. I handed it over.
"Smells very good. Thank you."
Then someone asked: "What if I want iced coffee?" Simple — pour the shot over ice. That question told me something important. People don't think in espresso specs. They think in terms of what they want to drink.
The best product demo isn't about specs. It's about answering the question someone actually has.
What I Learned
People are genuinely curious. Every person in the room wanted to know what the machine was — not because they're coffee enthusiasts, but because they'd never seen anything like it.
Non-coffee spaces are untapped. Hair salons, barbershops, coworking spaces — anywhere people sit and wait is a potential demo opportunity. These places are full of daily coffee drinkers who've never seen a portable espresso machine.
The Business Card
One more milestone. I finally have business cards — matte finish, QR code on the back linking straight to our landing page. No more "check my Instagram." Anyone who asks where to find the product now gets a real answer in their hand.
Looking professional isn't optional anymore. It's the next step.
